About The Opportunity

This role is responsible for the procurement of an uninterrupted flow of materials required to meet the production plan.

 

Critical outcomes for this role include:

Ensure materials are available for production by:

  • Issuing purchase orders, arranging transportation, and expediting as required.
  • Analyse MRP reports, receiving requisitions, analyzing each item for quantity, specifications, and delivery requirements.
  • Complete administrative tasks related to material procurement, including, filing purchase orders, supporting ERP implementation and maintaining the database.

 

Allow for timely decision-making in the production plan by:

  • Making recommendations to the Senior Buyer Team lead when and in what quantities materials should be purchased, or shortages may exist, to meet market conditions.
  • Provide forecasts to vendors for long lead-time items.
  • Advising departments of any changes in price or procedures and of restrictions on materials which would prohibit purchase.
  • Advising the Operations department of any lead time required to obtain critical materials.
  • Support special projects and other team members when they are away on business travel, vacation etc.

 

Effectively manage the cost of materials purchased by:

  • Work with Senior Buyer Team Lead to provide information for contracting each year.
  • Resolve price discrepancies, quality issues, quantity and timing issues.
  • Reviewing RM’s code dates to ensure we are using them prior to expiration.
  • Reviewing invoices which Finance refers for approval, particularly where price, freight or other items do not agree with the purchase order or contract.

 

Success in this role will require:

Education

  • Graduation from a recognized university or college with specialization in purchasing, or Business Administration or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year of purchasing experience with experience in a manufacturing setting 
  • Knowledge of MRP principles and applications
  • Previous experience in the food industry desirable but not essential
  • A demonstrated ability in key software applications such as EXCEL, Power-point, and Word.
